Samaritan Outreach Community Garden
“The Hope Garden”

History: Started and maintained by employees of Samaritan Outreach, a division of the Ministry of Caring that provides Samaritan Outreach Community Gardenoutreach and supportive services to homeless persons, the bountiful harvests and beauty of this garden are shared with needy clients. In the sunny corner lot, a variety of vegetables and herbs are grown in six raised beds. Tomatoes tend to fair best and are always a hit with those receiving them. Warming the entrance way are flowering shrubs and perennials to welcome and motivate incomers.

Impact: This garden not only brings a sense of community and pride to the neighborhood, it also demonstrates that self-reliance and hard work can bear the fruit of self-sufficiency.
