History: Named after Samuel Garrett, a local handyman who helped his friends and neighbors with household repairs, this garden commemorates his kind and giving nature. Determined to reclaim this vacant lot once used as a dumping ground for abandoned cars and trash, local neighbors along with the Delaware Center for Horticulture turned the 18 by 25 foot space into the sanctuary it is today, enlivened by a multitude of various plants including annuals, perennials, shrubs and containers.
Impact: The garden serves as an inspiration to the community as well as a place to relax, converse and enjoy the neighborly connections that Sam’s memory continues to foster. |
