DCH views community greening as an essential way to bring urban neighbors together and create a positive atmosphere for life in the city. The DCH Community Gardens program is one part of the DCH Greening Program that organizes residents and community groups to garden in vacant lots, plant and maintain tree-lined streets, and beautify and maintain park, sidewalk, and block gardens. The Community Garden program provides assistance to community groups to secure gardening sites and then provides materials, plants, tools, technical advice, and a support network for the groups’ gardening efforts.
