11th STREET BRIDGE, RIVERSIDE NEIGHBORHOODS TO PLANT 45 TREES

Sponsored by The Home Depot Foundation

WILMINGTON, DE (February 26, 2007) – The Delaware Center for Horticulture (DCH), whose mission is to cultivate greener communities, today announced that 45 bare root trees will be planted by volunteers in Northeast Wilmington’s 11th Street Bridge and Riverside neighborhoods.  This project is made possible, in part, from a $13,670.00 grant from The Home Depot Foundation and the Alliance for Community Trees (ACT) to provide the trees, tools, and materials with which the community will be able to create greener, healthier neighborhoods.  DCH is a member of ACT’s NeighborWoods Network.

Tree planting activities will take place as follows:

Saturday, March 24, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. – volunteers planting approximately 45 trees, followed by celebratory picnic. (Activities will held at and around the Kingswood Community Center, 2300 Bowers Street, Wilmington)

“The Home Depot Foundation is pleased to be a funding partner with The Delaware Center for Horticulture,” said Kelly Caffarelli, executive director of The Home Depot Foundation.  “Our foundation works with affordable housing and tree-planting organizations across the country to promote livable and healthy communities. By forming partnerships with these organizations, we are furthering our shared mission of creating stronger, more sustainable neighborhoods.”
