Start Vegetables from Seed
Thursday, March 25, 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon
Members $15 w Non-members $20
Starting a vegetable garden from seed is amazingly
inexpensive. Additional benefits include earlier harvests
and bragging rights. But the simple process can be
daunting. How to choose from the hundreds of varieties of
seeds? When to start? How to germinate, pot and
transplant?
Ann Mattingly will take you step-by-step through the
process. You will create a tray of seeds and seedlings to
take home. Many heirloom and unique cultivar seeds will
be available.

Make your own Rain Barrel
Friday, April 9, 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.
Members $20 w Non-members $27
Large plastic garbage can (optional) $18
This workshop was so popular last year we’re repeating it!
Rain barrels connected to your gutter downspouts are
doubly good for the environment: they save water for the
garden and reduce overflow in our storm drain systems.
No need to spend hundreds of dollars on a store-bought
barrel when you can create one yourself, using a garbage
can and readily available accessory parts. Sarah Deacle and
Anita Zumwalt-Jimerson will show you how it’s done.
Pre-order a plastic garbage can through DCH or bring
your own. The cans must have a watertight lid and no
wheels. All other materials are included in the lecture fee.

Space is limited. Please pre-register by April 2.
