Brandywine Park – History, Architecture, and Trees
Saturday, March 25, 10 am - Noon
Join park historian and author, Susan Mulchahey Chase, and DCH’s Tree Program Manager, Patrice Sheehan, for a walking tour of Wilmington’s gem of parks – Brandywine Park. Then return to DCH for a warm beverage and a look at Susan’s new book on the park’s architectural history. Start in DCH’s garden (replete with its own architectural artifacts) clamber down Rattlesnake Run, over the Swinging Bridge, continue to the Jasper Crane Rose Garden, cross the Van Buren Street Bridge and return. Good walking shoes required. Please register by March 20. DCH and Friends of Wilmington Parks Members: $9; Nonmembers: $12

Mt. Cuba Garden Tour
Thursday, April 20, 1 - 3 pm
Welcome spring on this tour of the splendid wildflower gardens at the Mt. Cuba Center. We will meet at Mt Cuba’s parking lot and be treated to a guided tour of this lovely garden, remarkable for its tremendous variety of plants native to our Appalachian Piedmont. Directions will be mailed to participants upon registration. Space is limited. Please register by March 31.
Members: $11; Nonmembers: $14

Springwood Garden – A Private Tour
Tuesday, May 9, 9:15 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Join Dr. Richard Lighty, and his wife Sally, as they lead a tour of their private garden, Springwood, in Kennett Square, PA. The Lightys have spent over 40 years growing this 4 acre garden into a showcase of Dick’s Asian plant collecting missions, native plants, low maintenance gardening, and garden planning for multiple uses. Highlights include epimediums, stewartias, native rhododendrons, bamboos, lilies, vegetables, small fruits, and ferns. Lighty, now retired, was first Director of the Mt. Cuba Center for the Study of Piedmont Flora and taught previously at the University of Delaware, where he led the Longwood Graduate Program in Public Garden Management, inspiring legions of today’s horticultural leaders. Participants will gather at DCH and be transported by van to the garden. Space is limited. Please register by May 2. Members: $12; Nonmembers: $16

Two–Day Trip to Long Island Area Gardens
Wednesday and Thursday, June 14 and 15

Join Lenny Wilson, DCH’s Landscape Manager, for a two-day bus excursion to New York City and Long Island gardens and nurseries. On day one, you’ll tour several public gardens in Battery Park City with Director of Horticulture T Fleisher, have lunch at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and tour the gardens with Vice President of Horticulture Patrick Cullina, and finish the day with a with a wine and cheese reception in the Hamptons at the much fabled gardens and studio of artist Robert Dash at the Madoo Conservancy. Day two begins with a visit to the perennial display gardens of Garden Treasure Nursery before stopping at LongHouse Reserve, the home and garden of internationally known textile designer, Jack Larson. Mr. Larson has created spectacular display gardens to highlight his ever expanding and diverse collections of traditional and contemporary craft. We then ferry over to the Island’s North Fork for a garden tour and plant buying visit to Environmentals (nursery) and Trimbles Nursery. We’ll have more trip details available early in 2006. SPECIAL NOTICE: Registration to any DCH event includes the possibility of photographs taken for publicity purposes.
All events take place at DCH, unless otherwise noted.

REFUNDS & CANCELLATIONS: If you wish to withdraw from a registration event and notify DCH within 7 working days prior
to the event, one half of the registration fee will be refunded. No refunds are granted after that time. Material costs will additionally be taken out of refund. For one-day trips and summer camps, refund requests must be received 45 days prior to the event. Undersubscribed events may be cancelled.

PARKING: for 40 vehicles is available in the Center's lot on a first come, first served basis. There is convenient parking on Gilpin & Scott Streets and in nearby parking lots. DCH is accessible by DART buses 10 & 28.
